Poultry farming is one of the fastest-growing agricultural sectors in Zambia. Despite its growth potential, it still faces several challenges. From disease outbreaks, to limited access to quality feed and veterinary services, to inadequate infrastructure, which poses a challenge for many small-scale farmers entering the market. Like many others, Caroline faced these challenges in trying to set up her business. Thanks to our support, Caroline now successfully runs her own poultry business.
Early aspirations and educational journey
Caroline's childhood aspirations revolved around two passions: healthcare and gardening. Despite the challenges she faced, including financial constraints, she pursued her education diligently. She earned her diploma in Agricultural Business Management, nurturing her love for agriculture.
Through a friend, 33-year-old Caroline heard about Caritas Czech Republic’s support for small-scale farmers and business owners. “I joined the business skills training which enlightened me on how to ensure that my poultry business improves and remains sustainable,” Says Caroline. In addition to the training, she also received a grant to improve her business, a pivotal moment that would reshape her entrepreneurial path.
‘’The financial assistance I have received following the training became the catalyst for my ambitions,” appreciates Caroline.
With newfound resources, Caroline expanded her poultry business from 100 to 350 birds, marking a significant leap toward her goals. Today, her clientele includes neighbours and market vendors, a testament to the quality of her products and the growing demand.
Caroline's success not only transformed her livelihood but also resonated within her community.
