Agribusiness for LIFE- Livelihoods, Innovation, Food and Empowerment

Agribusiness in Zambia employs most of the active workforce however it takes only a small part in the GDP of the country. The project is set in the Western, South and/or Central province. The South province is the poorest one, is characterized by missing manufacturing industry which would increase the value of growth products. On the other hand the South province belongs to highly developed areas has the great potential in agribusiness, fishing and farming as well. The Central province is characteristic of suitable climatic conditions and location. All areas deals with problems like acknowledge of traditional principles, right agro methods, land management, insufficient quality inputs.

Implementation and results:

  • 125 Farmers and 22 cooperatives in four disctricts of Western Province improved their agricultural productivity and increase their income through training, value chain development and access to markets.
  • Targeted farmers have received training in various topics, such as cooperative rules and regulations, business management (starting and improving businesses), food processing etc. Selected farmers also participated in various agrishows, allowing them to connect with markets or other businesses
