Craft puts people of poor regions on their feet and rebuilds post-war areas

For people in disadvantaged regions, mastering a craft is a path to financial self-sufficiency. In places dealing with the impacts of war, it is a significant contributor to their reconstruction. For example, a welding workshop in Iraq, a restaurant in a refugee settlement in Zambia or a traditional jewellery shop in Georgia have all been created thanks to our help.

Namenda now has her own restaurant in the Mayukwayukwa Refugee Settlement

Life in a refugee settlement, far from big cities and job opportunities, makes it difficult to earn a living. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic and UNHCR, refugees and people from host communities can open their own small businesses in the settlement. Like Namenda Simbuwa, who opened her own restaurant where she who cooks delicious meals that people love to eat.

We are now able to save and get loans, thanks to Caritas Czech Republic and their savings group initiative, say women from rural Zambia

Twikatane Savings Group started on 1 January 2017 in Mwansabombwe district of Luapula Province. It is a self-formed savings group that began with 20 members but has grown to 35 members. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic in Zambia and FSDZ for introducing the savings group initiative to them, all the group members are now able to save and get loans.

The entrance to a large hospital in Zambia's capital Lusaka is buzzing with life. Visitors are trying to find a parking space and honk at the forming queue. At the entrance, street vendors offer bananas or fried potatoes. On plastic chairs at one of the street bistros sit a few hospital employees who have run in for their lunch break. But inside the big hospital, in the paediatric surgery clinic, it is quiet.
