Alex Mape lives in the Mantapala area, in the village of Semawe, which lies next to a large refugee settlement. He has a wife and three children and thanks to Caritas Czech Republic, his life was significantly improved, according to his words.

In Zambia, challenges still remain in maternal and infant mortality. Childbirth safety has thus become one of our priorities in the country. For example, we introduced the so-called Mother’s shelters, accommodation near clinics for women in the last days of their pregnancy. This ensures the women receive the necessary medical care in time.

The day that changed my life forever

18th June, 2021 will be remembered as the day that changed my life forever. That Friday, I received a call to interview two sisters from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Sitting in the metal shack they now call home, I listened to Annie and Bibiane recount chilling details of how they fled armed rebels in South Kivu.
