The catastrophic earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria has had devastating consequences. More than 50,000 people have lost their lives. Infrastructure in the affected areas has been destroyed, while many people are still surviving in makeshift shelters. What is currently most needed? And how will the assistance change in the coming weeks and months? We talked to Neda Khanji from Violet, our partner organisation providing aid to people affected by the earthquake in Syria.

Kalota Cooperative from a refugee settlement in Zambia now has a source of livelihood thanks to Caritas Czech Republic

Caritas Czech Republic has been supporting refugees in Zambia since 2014. With more than 100,000 refugees living in the country’s refugee settlements, basic needs and many other resources have become inadequate, leaving these refugees struggling to find money to get by each day. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic in Zambia, a group of refugees and Zambians called Kalota Cooperative now has a source of livelihood through a rice processing centre in Meheba Refugee settlement.

How is Caritas Czech Republic helping after the earthquake in Turkey and Syria? Interview with our Relief Coordinator Anna Volfová

The death toll of last week's catastrophic earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria exceeded 25,000 people. And the number continues to grow. At the same time, over 5 million people have lost their homes in Syria alone, with hundreds of thousands more in Turkey. Caritas Czech Republic is helping to provide them with immediate humanitarian aid. We spoke to our colleague Anna Volfova, who is coordinating our aid to people affected by the earthquake, about the situation on the ground and how we are helping.

A catastrophic earthquake struck south-eastern Turkey and north-western Syria on the 6th of February. Caritas Czech Republic released money from its emergency fund and launched a collection to help the affected people. The funds are already helping people in Turkey and Syria with basic needs.

A year of our help to Ukraine: How does Caritas Czech Republic support people affected by Russian aggression?

On the 24th of February, we will mark the sad anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ever since then, the war has displaced more than 15 million people from their homes. Caritas Czech Republic has been helping from the very beginning.  Initially, we focused on the most urgent needs, such as delivering humanitarian aid and helping refugees. Thanks to the generosity of our donors who have contributed to the Caritas for Ukraine collection, we can help war-affected people.
