Namenda now has her own restaurant in the Mayukwayukwa Refugee Settlement

Life in a refugee settlement, far from big cities and job opportunities, makes it difficult to earn a living. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic and UNHCR, refugees and people from host communities can open their own small businesses in the settlement. Like Namenda Simbuwa, who opened her own restaurant where she who cooks delicious meals that people love to eat.

The catastrophic earthquake that struck Morocco on the night of Friday, 8 to Saturday, 9 September, has already claimed almost 3,000 lives. The tremors have affected up to 300,000 people, thousands of people are injured. World Humanitarian Day: Interview with humanitarian worker Alaa Alden Yahea from Syria about the immediate response after the devastating earthquake and providing help amidst persisting bombing

When a devastating earthquake struck Turkey and Syria in the early hours of February 6 this year, it also affected the life of thirty-four-year-old Alaa. His house was severely damaged and Alaa lost the roof over his head in seconds. Yet he immediately started helping other people affected by the earthquake. In an interview, Alaa explains what it is like to work as a humanitarian in Syria, and what the immediate assistance looked like after the earthquake that took the lives of nearly 60,000 people.

We are now able to save and get loans, thanks to Caritas Czech Republic and their savings group initiative, say women from rural Zambia

Twikatane Savings Group started on 1 January 2017 in Mwansabombwe district of Luapula Province. It is a self-formed savings group that began with 20 members but has grown to 35 members. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic in Zambia and FSDZ for introducing the savings group initiative to them, all the group members are now able to save and get loans.
