Full Name: DAFI Scholarship Programme - Tertiary Education for Refugees
Duration: May 2019 – December 2020
Zambia is a developing economy, with challenges in meeting demand in the delivery of social services. The country faces a human resource gap in education, health and agriculture sectors. Zambia has a policy of free education at primary school level, besides the user fees that still have to be paid as well as school requirements, which need to be provided to the learners. School fees begin to take effect at secondary school level and get even higher at tertiary level. While refugees in Zambia are able to gain entry into a University upon obtaining a study permit, they are not eligible for a Government bursary or any student loan facility. Thus the high cost of tertiary education remains a serious burden
Implementation and Results(2020):
- 46 refugees in the 3 refugee settlements and Lusaka target communities gain access to tertiary education through provision of DAFI Scholarship
