Livelihoods Urban Refugees Project

Full Name: Livelihoods Urban Refugees Project

Duration: April 2018 - December 2018

Around 7 000 refugees reside in urban areas of Zimbabwe (mainly in Lusaka) and usually were not allowed to earn living. As the most vulnerable were also socially excluded, they lack protection, they had poor access to loans and capital that would enable them to withstand shocks or start a business. The goal of the project was to improve self-reliance and livelihoods of urban refugees and other People of Concern through improving access to education, vocational training, and livelihoods opportunities.

  • A total of 140 vulnerable households received monetary Subsistence Allowance.
  • An equivalent of 14 886 EUR in cash and books relevant to pupils’ grades were distributed to 361 pupils.
  • Four different outreach centers were established and equipped, where various activities, including Youth programme or Literacy Classes started to regularly take place.
  • A total of 49 households got involved in Technical Skills Training (including courses as African Print or Food Production Business), while 20 youths got involved in Vocational and Entrepreneurship Skills Training Programme.
